Work – and more work.
This is GOOD! (I’ve also been enjoying local bands.)
But it has left a big gap in making patches and posting things. In spare time I’ve been working on a “Bow River” keyboards video for a couple of people, and had a blast with Mainstage and the Prominy CP80 (Kontakt sampler instrument) creating the Chisel LIVE ambience. If you like Chisel, and have the CP80/Mainstage combo let me know in the contact form and I’ll shoot it to you as a freebie. The video will happen, but preparing for it is too much fun!
The biggest learning curve has been minimising resource usage by Kontakt in Mainstage. Kontakt can be a massive hog, and I’ve been working on both using multi outputs and patch alias’. Having instance after instance of Kontakt instruments in a Mainstage concert is a surefire way to bog down a computer and create performance issues.
The issue with the Patch alias in Mainstage is that whilst the volume and pan are saved on a per patch basis, the bypassing of effect and instrument VST’s is not.
I can recommend JD Musik as a YouTube channel for clearly laying out the most resource effective ways of using Kontakt with Mainstage.
